Last week the Governor was criticized by several elected officials and a growing number of Republican voters for allowing counties dictatorial power when it comes to mask-wearing.
Texans, naturally inclined government skeptics, are more teed up these days after forced isolation, followed by predictable rioting.
Well-guarded frustration is seeping out. Last week two conservatives were widely criticized for cussing and cracking jokes about the wheelchair-bound Abbott.
The government has been wrong (and outright lied) about so much when it comes to the coronavirus. Trust, to the extent it existed, has been exhausted.
