Today’s stories
THE SREC has released a list of 46 GOP caucus members who have pledged to select the next Speaker of the House from within the party. It’s been reported that a gathering of members will take place next weekend to discuss the process to avoid a debacle, like selecting Greg Abbott’s preferred candidate, Dennis Bonnen, in 2019.
DREW SPRINGER pulled out of a debate in the SD30 run-off election with a day’s notice. The reported excuse that holding the Texas House in November is too important and deserves his attention. According to his social media account, the excuse rings hollow as the candidate spent the day before the ditched debate campaigning for SD30.
Springer came in second to Shelley Luther in the first round of the race. The run-off is set for December 19.
THE NEW YORK TIMES, when it comes to polling the 2020 election, is calling it quits. It seems like a hedge to set up the, “well the polls tightened/flipped after the [Insert: Hunter Biden scandal, debate performance, Middle East peace deal, COVID relief package]. We weren’t wrong the entire time.”
GEORGE SOROS is trying to buy another District Attorney in Texas.
RUSSIANS hacking the 2016 Olympics is the latest blank fired by swampy spooks to influence the 2020 election. Beware the Russian bogeymen is the laziest, most worn-out troupe and, if it’s not already there, bound for white noise status.
JUSTICE JOHN ROBERTS sided with liberal members of the court to reject a petition for review of a lower court ruling allowing mail-in ballots to come in and be counted three days after the election in Pennsylvania. Extending the election to try and eke out a win is a farce and should be handled before election day to curtail the chaos that Democrats are ginning up. Still, this can be revisited when the court is restored to its full capacity of nine justices.
OUT OF STATE DEMOCRAT GROUPS are dumping more money into Texas House races. Forward Majority spending more against Sarah Davis and Morgan Meyer is good news for the GOP and suggests that the House will not flip.
What’s interesting about this cycle is what’s been lost, Democrats have to win, or the party is destroyed. There isn’t a credible argument in the opposite direction, but that didn’t stop Jake Tapper from suggesting the GOP be burned to the ground.
