A longer examination of primary results will be forthcoming. The TL;DR version is, assuming realistic expectations, the media narratives about how bad they were for conservatives are untrue. In the meantime, the news continues.
Today’s Stories
HIGHER EDUCATION and TRANSGENDER LUNACY is back in the headlines, following legislative candidate Jeff Younger’s appearance at the University of North Texas.
Younger, whose attempts to rescue his son James from so-called sexual “transitioning” received national headlines, spoke about his campaign with the campus chapter of Young Conservatives of Texas (YCT).
Normally, this is a non-event. YCT is a well-known organization, whose chapters host candidates every election cycle. Then ANTIFA showed up:
Watch the whole thing, it’s worth the hour, there’s a lot going on.
First things first: these are your college campuses, Texas.
This has been a personal hobby horse for a decade. That video is why. While Rick Perry made sporadic attempts at reform, Republicans have largely ignored the problem. Under Greg Abbott, that ignorance has metastasized into active surrender.
This video is the result and comes less than two weeks after Dan Patrick proposed to abolish faculty tenure. It doesn’t take a genius to see how these sorts of videos strengthen Patrick’s hand.
Left to their own devices, neither Abbott nor Dade Phelan wants anything to do with Patrick’s proposal. Their normal playbook would be to kill it quietly. Videos such as this make it infinitely more difficult to run that playbook.
Then there’s the transgender aspect. If the basic premise of the ideology is insufficiently deranged, add this sort of behavior to the mix.
Gol-ly.
In fact, one of the top takeaways from the primary is how badly the LGBT lobby took it on the chin. If that video is how they’re going to react, expect that trend to accelerate.
With “Snippy Stephanie” Klick in a runoff, this topic isn’t going away and both the higher ed and transgender lunacy status quos became harder to defend. (AC)
TURNOUT in the 2022 primary, despite being low throughout the early voting period, ended up slightly higher than the equivalent number for 2018.
Both early voting in-person and by mail were off while election day turnout outpaced expectations. It remains to be seen if the mail vote rebounds since some of the drop-off may be attributable to revised processes.
If the trend holds, voters moving to in-person voting on election day would be significant. (AC)
