Today’s Stories
DANIEL HODGE, the former chief of staff to GREG ABBOTT, is now lobbying for GEORGE SOROS.
Lovely. And completely unsurprising. This illustrates two motifs in Texas politics:
Team Abbott’s lack of core convictions.
The pay-to-play culture under the pink dome.
(Aside: The Capitol isn’t pink, it’s tan with a reddish hue.)
It’s unlikely that this is organized skullduggery. Nevertheless, the willingness to cash the check tells you what you need to know.
Remember this next time you see Greg Abbott bashing George Soros.
(Related: George P. Bush endorsed by Soros’ business partner.) (AC)
CRAIG MURPHY, noxious political consultant, got dragged yesterday. This is a side note to our item about Ellen Troxclair.
Specifically, a PAC linked to Murphy was the subject of multiple resolutions of condemnation by multiple county parties.
The language from one of the resolutions is too good not to share:
This is a direct attempt to mislead voters... The mailer was sent out by “Protect and Serve PAC,” a shell PAC set up by Craig Murphy. All contributions to the PAC are from his clients or related parties, and all expenses go to Craig Murphy’s companies.
Amen. (AC)
CHIP ROY has a must-read Twitter thread about the relationship between conservatives and big business.
Meanwhile the desire to strike back is understandable and frequently commendable, how you do so is equally important. It’s important to both identify appropriate targets and use effective means.
Conservative performance in this area, as opposed to conservative intentions, needs improvement. When in doubt, look to David French and do the opposite of his take.
Kudos to Congressman Roy.
