Today’s stories
GOVERNOR GREG ABBOTT yesterday added to the growing consensus that the 2021 legislative session wasn’t as conservative as it should have been.
While signing a bill that initially sought to ban Critical Race Theory, Abbott noted the bill didn’t accomplish its aim and would need to be beefed up during one of the coming special sessions.
In so doing, Abbott validated the observations of actual conservatives who have been pushing back on the idea that critical race theory was banned (it wasn’t). Kudos to Abbott (who, BTW, is dominating the news cycle).
Texas Eagle Forum is working on this issue of CRT and should be a resource for members during the special session to actually ban the racist curriculum.
Regarding special sessions, the list of issues Abbott has publicly said will be addressed is multiplying. One wonders why lawmakers were allowed to leave town in the first place, especially since Abbott said they wouldn’t until election integrity was passed.
THE BORDER WALL announced by Abbott last week is starting to get some meat on the bones. Yesterday, the governor announced the creation of a fund, seeded it with $250M for wall construction, and called on Biden to give Texas land back to Texas.
The maneuvering on immigration at this point appears to be utterly political on Abbott’s part.
Days-late-Dade Phelan voiced sort-of support for tackling the issue of illegal border crossings, saying he’ll task committees with studying it over the interim.
This guy is completely useless unless you have a cheeseball picture quota to fill. Dade is the best at pretending to hammer a nail or tenderize chicken with a Speakers gavel.
Sycophantically praising Dade for his inane social media posts is Texas’ version of the national press falling over themselves to report on Biden’s animals.
