Today’s stories
GREG ABBOTT isn’t polling well, according to a Quinnipiac University.
The group’s latest effort in the Lone Star State had half Texans saying Abbott doesn’t deserve a third term in office (48% - does vs. 46% doesn’t).
First, the poll is likely flawed (overblown). Polling of Texas typically oversamples left-of-center Republicans and Democrats as a proportion of the electorate.
Second, even if it’s off, the trend lines for Abbott across multiple polls are headed in the wrong direction.
So what is the poll?
It is potentially a ploy to get a Democrat candidate off the sidelines and into the race, something they’ve been hesitant to do until this point.
Leftists publications in Texas have been ramping back up with the narrative that Republicans are on the defense in Texas (they aren’t), and Democrats have a path to relevance in the state in the near and long term (they don’t).
To date, the only actual candidate, Democrats, have suggested is Beto O’Rourke. Republicans should want Beto in the race. He’ll lose if he enters against the GOP field.
Interestingly, the poll showed that while Abbott’s border wall is supported overall (50% to 46%), his commitment to arrest illegal aliens enjoys much greater support (55-38%).
The former (wall) is passive the latter (arrests) is active. Texans are ready for action on illegal aliens streaming across the border.
KAMALA HARRIS will visit the Texas/Mexico border on Friday after months of being shamed for not doing the same.
