TEXAS DEMOCRATS held their convention over the weekend. It was a reminder that they’re not a credible opposition party.
The most significant headline was the tantrum several delegates threw at the expense of Texas Scorecard.
While the freak-out at the end is most entertaining, the delegates’ lack of enthusiasm for Biden was just as noteworthy.
Beyond the Texas Scorecard incident, the party failed to adopt a platform. They also re-elected a party chairman in Gilbert Hinojosa, who has overseen the past decade of party failure.
Those are all accurate. And worth noting. But one vignette illustrates Texas Democrats’ failure more than any other.
Seriously…Dennis Bonnen?
Much can be said about the GOP’s selection of Bonnen. None of it flattering. For the disgraced former legislative officer to remain a thing in Texas politics ultimately speaks to the incompetence of the “opposition” party.
Dennis Bonnen’s scandals, and downfall, were the ultimate gift horse to Texas Democrats’ efforts to flip the state in 2020. They looked it in the mouth. Two years later, Bonnen’s trolling them at their convention.

HOUSE REPUBLICANS are planning to censure several members who backed candidates opposed by leadership. This follows the recent first anniversary of Democrats facing no repercussions for last summer’s quorum bust.
It’s fascinating what provokes ire and doesn’t in the Texas house.
SID MILLER is calling on the Texas GOP to re-think its position on medical marijuana.
Texas remains unlikely to enact major changes to marijuana laws as long as Dan Patrick remains governor. While Miller’s comment could signify that public opinion is changing, it’s also possible that Miller or a pal has an angle.
