Today’s Stories
UT AUSTIN’s “faculty Senate” has passed a resolution supporting Critical Race Theory. The non-binding resolution came at the request of a national left wing-group.
On the one hand, this isn’t surprising. On the other hand, that this isn’t surprising speaks to the failure of the current generation of Texas’ GOP “leadership” to provide any adult supervision of higher ed.
Finance professor Richard Lowery summarizes the farce:
Yeah, pretty much. Realizing how bad this looks, Dan Patrick took to Twitter:
Patrick’s not wrong, and any attention is welcome, but let’s get real. Dan Patrick has been Lite Guv for four legislative bienniums. Every single time, the Texas Senate (presiding officer Dan Patrick) has confirmed every single Regent appointment.
Speaking of Regent appointments, the guy who does the appointing was tweeting about higher ed. himself this morning.
Are UTSA (the University of Texas-San Antonio, for those unfamiliar with the acronym) and Baylor doing Tier One Research into Critical Race Theory? Considering the recent trend at Baylor, it’s possible.
Don Huffines, meanwhile, had the appropriate response:
While Abbott is currently positioned to avoid a runoff, this (and any number of poised problems) could serve as a game-changer if it blows up. Whether or not it does, is out of our hands.
BROOKS LANDGRAF has yet to deny carrying on an extramarital relationship with Tiffany Wilson.
Yesterday, the incumbent lawmaker from West Texas, confronted multiple times with the allegations, stated that “the truth always comes out.” Maybe it already has?
For her part, Wilson has now publicly denied being involved with Landgraf saying, similarly to Landgraf, that “the truth needs to come out.”
In talking to the Odessa American Wilson appears to have validated the content released last week by Current Revolt, stating it was stolen from her and that she “has no idea how her photos and videos were obtained and spread.”
Are current denials part of a cover-up effort? It’s difficult to fathom how the material was “stolen” but the possibility isn’t zero.
For some reason, according to the article, Wilson was fired from her job. Perhaps her employers were offended by her alleged actions or maybe influenced by powerful friends of Landgraf.
Landgraf should resign.
GREG ABBOTT is not coming out of the 2022 election unscathed.
An analysis of Abbott’s current run by professor Drew Landry (higher ed. is a mess) gets many things wrong. Here’s a bullet list of correct takes:
Abbott falling below 60% of the vote is bad for him in future primary elections, not the 2022 general election. Bobby Francis is toast no matter who he faces in November.
Juxtaposed to how well Dan Patrick is likely to perform, Abbott is set up on a weaker footing heading into 2023. Though, for his part, Patrick hasn’t shown much interest in using his leverage for good.
Abbott has not been on autopilot or moving to the center to appease moderates ahead of November, and he’s he doesn’t need to since the midterm will be an absolute bloodbath for Democrats. This doesn’t mean he won’t and all actions that do should be set in bold relief for the party faithful.
Suggesting Paxton is on the same level as Bill Clements, good night.
Landry does get right that Paxton is likely to walk away from the primary with a win.
