Today’s stories
DAN PATRICK is a man on an island when it comes to Constitutional Carry.
Yesterday, Governor Abbott said he would sign the legislation if it makes it to his desk and said it would happen.
When pressure started mounting on Patrick to move HB 1927, a Senate measure was introduced. The more straightforward, more sensible approach would be to take up and pass HB 1927. Patrick is positioning for a compromised bill.
The House is playing a similar game with other important legislation, including election integrity.
Thus far, 11 Senators have made public statements supporting constitutional carry, a measure that has been adopted in 20 other states.
Complicating this situation for Patrick, yesterday it was announced that Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez is being tapped to head up U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Last week Gonzalez vocally told Patrick not to pass Constitutional Carry.
Is Patrick going to cave to the Biden administration? Those campaign commercials write themselves.
THE WOKE agenda will tank Democrats sooner, not later.
James Carville is the latest Democrat to come out in opposition to the bizarre fringe woke agenda, and incessant canceling that accompanies leftist dogma today.
The wacky agenda that’s been a long time coming ramped up after 2016 but didn’t and won’t lead to wins.
For the record, 2020 was not a successful election for Democrats. It’s widely accepted that if COVID hadn’t upended political and economic status quos, not to mention election procedures, Donald Trump would have won reelection.
Carville isn’t the first lefty to scold his party for indulging the irrational; Obama was calling for Democrats to abandon woke cancel culture in late 2019.
While dissing woke is the top line from the Carville interview, and he’s doing partisan navel-gazing, there’s a huge takeaway for Republicans. Carvel states:
I always tell people that we’ve got to stop speaking Hebrew and start speaking Yiddish. We have to speak the way regular people speak, the way voters speak. It ain’t complicated. That’s how you connect and persuade. And we have to stop allowing ourselves to be defined from the outside.
Republicans who want to win need to take this free advice Carvel is offering his team because it’s right.
REPUBLICANS in the House continue to take strange votes on no-brainer amendments to protect children, exploited women, and addicts.
Republicans Ernest Bailes (Shepherd), Brad Buckley (Salado), Angie Chen Button (Garland), Giovanni Capriglione (Southlake), Travis Clardy (Nacogdoches), Jake Ellzey (Waxahachie), James Frank (Wichita Falls), Cody Harris (Palestine), Lyle Larson (San Antonio), Geanie Morrison (Victoria), Jim Murphy (Houston), Andrew Murr(Junction), and Gary VanDeaver (New Boston) voted against an amendment to add pornography addiction to a list of addictions to be studied by a newly established Brain Institute.
No amendment to study the permanent effects of TDS was offered.
Will any of these representatives change their vote in the House Journal to gaslight their constituents? Follow the Vote Change Bot to find out.
Of this inglorious bunch, Larson is the only member to also vote against an HB5 amendment that would prioritize ISPs that block pornographic content taking part in broadband infrastructure expansion.
